Everton’s Manager Frank Lampard has given an update on Alex Iwobi’s condition following his ankle injury that necessitated his being stretchered out of Old Trafford in his club’s third round defeat at Manchester United.
According to a report by The Athletic, the Nigerian and Everton midfielder is to have a scan on his ankle after sustaining possible ligament damage during their 3-1 FA Cup third-round loss against Manchester United.
Iwobi, 26, went down after a challenge from United’s Tyrell Malacia and could not continue. The Nigeria international was replaced by Abdoulaye Doucoure in the 51st minute after being taken off on a stretcher holding his shirt over his face.
Manager Frank Lampard in giving an update remarked: “We hope it’s not too serious,” Lampard said. “It looks like an ankle ligament injury. He will have a scan tomorrow to confirm.”
Lampard also confirmed to Qatar-based beIN Sports that Anthony Gordon, who came on as a substitute, had been unwell and that was why he could not start the game.
The defeat by United extends Everton’s winless run to eight matches, with their last victory in any competition coming against Crystal Palace on October 22.
Lampard, though, was happy with the performance of his side at Old Trafford.
He was asked how Everton turn around their current form and replied: “With a performance like tonight, with a spirit like tonight, by trying to keep big players fit.
“We need to find a result, in reality, but a performance like that will give results sooner rather than later, that’s for sure.”
Everton’s next match comes in the Premier League against Southampton on January 14.
