After the suspense that had lingered for months, CAF may announce the host nation for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations when its executive committee meets in Cairo on 27 September.
This is one of the outcomes of the meeting on Thursday of the executive committee. According to an earlier schedule last year, the host country was to have been announced last 10 February.
There are five bids on the card. The Kingdom of Morocco is the topmost contender. There is also a bid by their eastern neighbours, Algeria along with the nascent Nigeria-Benin joint bid as well as that of Zambia and South Africa.
Algeria are also bidding for the 2027 edition.. According to a press statement released after the Thursday’s meeting, CAF president, Dr Patrice Motsepe said: “The CAF Executive Committee (“EXCO”) took important unanimous decisions which will make significant contributions to the sustainability, global competitiveness and attractiveness of football on the African Continent.
“We will be meeting again in Cairo on Wednesday 27 September 2023 to discuss and take decisions relating to the countries that will be awarded the TotalEnergies AFCON 2025 and the AFCON 2027.”
