Expectedly, no Nigerian referee among 81 officials for U20 World Cup

The FIFA Referees Committee  has selected 25 referees and 38 assistant referees for the next month’s FIFA U-20 World Cup in Argentina.

In addition, 18 video match officials have been appointed for this tournament.

While there are 11 Africans in the list of referees as well as assistant referees and VAR, like in most international football competitions, no Nigerian official made the cut.

The selected African referees are: BOUH Abdel Aziz Mauritania), MAROUF Mohamed (Egypt), SY Issa (Senegal) and TOM Abongile of South Africa.

There are five Africans among the 38 assistant referees. They( are: ANGOURA Nouha Senegal), BrinsI Zakaria (Morocco), De O Sanches Lopes Ivanildo Meirelles (Angola), Ngoh Adou Hermann Desire (Cote d’Ivoire)and  Zerhouni Abbes Akram of Algeria.

Among the 18 Video Assistant Referee are two Africans –  El Fariq Hamza of Morocco and Elshinawi Amr Ahmed Abdelrahim of Egypt.
