Remo Stars, the only team to score in every match of the Nigeria Premier League championship play-off will definitely play in the CAF inter-clubs next season.
Kudos to Qudus Akanni whose solitary goal in the 37th minute ensured they defeat their arch rivals, Bendel Insurance 1-0 to temporarily go atop of the log.
The win means they clinch a continental ticket which is likely the more prestigious CAF Champions League. It was the first time the team has beaten Bendel Insurance in the NPL and have also become the first Nigerian team this year to secure qualification for the Champions League.
The other ticket is dangling between Enyimba and Rivers United.
With the last play-off pitching Enyimba with Rivers United, what ever the result, Remo Stars will place second on the final log.
Had Remo Stars doubled their lead, their story would have been sweeter as they could have been in contention for the championship and the attendant N100 million jackpot.
But they are now programmed for the second position, no matter the result of the Enyimba – Rivers United clash.
If a winner emerges and gross 11 points, Remo Stars with nine points will be ahead of the losing club that will be truncated at eight points.
If the tie end in a draw, the three teams will tie at nine point apiece. Enyimba, the Nigerian league godfathers will have the advantage owing to their four goal advantage.
Remo Stars have three goal difference while Rivers United have two.
