Fabrizio Romano has revealed Tottenham’s current stance on Roberto De Zerbi following the club’s disappointing start to the Premier League season.

The defeats continue to pile up for Tottenham, with Saturday’s 3-2 loss to Aston Villa leaving Spurs still searching for consistency under their new head coach. Despite the money spent during the summer and the arrival of several new players, results have so far failed to improve significantly.
One of the few positives from the defeat was Tottenham finally ending their wait for a Premier League goal. However, Spurs remain in the relegation zone, and their difficult position is unlikely to change unless De Zerbi can quickly turn things around.
The poor start has inevitably raised questions about the Italian’s future, with sections of the media already speculating about whether Tottenham could consider making a change in the dugout.
However, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, there is currently no indication that Spurs are preparing to sack De Zerbi.
Tottenham still believe in De Zerbi
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano explained that Tottenham made a deliberate decision to back De Zerbi during the summer transfer window and remain committed to his ideas.
“Tottenham decided to back Roberto De Zerbi in the summer by trusting his ideas,” Romano said.
He pointed out that while Spurs were unable to complete every deal they wanted, they still enjoyed an ambitious and expensive transfer window, bringing in several high-profile players.
Cody Gakpo was among the players Tottenham reportedly wanted but could not sign after the forward became unavailable. Romano stressed that failing to complete every target is normal for any club during a transfer window.
Despite that, Tottenham invested heavily and strengthened the squad with a number of quality additions.
Romano added that the club’s message remains one of confidence in De Zerbi and that he currently has no information suggesting Tottenham are exploring alternative managerial options.
According to Romano, Spurs understand that rebuilding the team and changing its fortunes will take time.
He explained that Tottenham could not realistically go from narrowly avoiding relegation the previous season to challenging for Champions League qualification simply because they invested heavily in the squad.
The club understood that the process would take time and would not necessarily produce immediate results.
However, Romano acknowledged that the current situation is below the expectations of everyone involved, including De Zerbi, the players and the club hierarchy.
Tottenham would certainly have expected more than two points from their opening five matches, but despite the disappointing results, the club are still maintaining their faith in De Zerbi and the long-term project.
