Paul Robinson Praises Leeds United’s Decision to Sign James Trafford
Former Leeds United goalkeeper Paul Robinson has praised the club’s decision to bring James Trafford to Elland Road, highlighting the England international’s early impact between the posts.
Leeds secured their second Premier League clean sheet of the season on Sunday after playing out a goalless draw with Crystal Palace. Trafford has now recorded three clean sheets in six appearances across all competitions since completing his move from Manchester City earlier this summer.
The Whites reportedly paid £40 million for the 23-year-old goalkeeper, who is widely regarded as a potential future England No.1. Trafford is already establishing himself as one of Daniel Farke’s first-choice players, with Michael Zetterer providing competition for the position.
Robinson has been particularly impressed with what he has seen from Trafford and believes Leeds addressed an important position by signing the young goalkeeper.
Trafford was also selected by Thomas Tuchel for England’s squad for the upcoming UEFA Nations League fixtures. Having already earned two senior caps, he is now looking to challenge Jordan Pickford for the No.1 spot ahead of the World Cup.
The Leeds goalkeeper produced another composed display against Crystal Palace, making several important interventions. One of his standout moments came early in the second half when he dealt confidently with a dangerous free-kick from the Eagles.
Speaking on Sky Sports during the match, Robinson explained why he believes Trafford has been an important addition for Leeds.
The former England goalkeeper said: “It’s an addition that Leeds have needed in the last 12 to 18 months.”
