Amar Dedić injury update emerges as Bosnia boss questions Newcastle decision
Newcastle United have received encouraging news regarding Amar Dedić after the defender was forced to withdraw from Bosnia and Herzegovina duty during the international break.
Dedić aggravated a hamstring problem during Newcastle’s 4-1 defeat to Leeds United, but Bosnia boss Sergej Barbarez expects the 24-year-old to recover in time to feature for the Magpies after the international window.
Barbarez confirmed that Dedić suffered a recurrence of the injury at Elland Road and expressed his frustration that the defender was involved in the match.
“Amar Dedić re-aggravated his hamstring injury in the game against Leeds United. If he had not played that game, he would be joining us right now,” Barbarez said.
“Now he will miss this Nations League window, but he should be ready for Newcastle United’s first game after the international break.”
Dedić will therefore miss Bosnia’s upcoming fixtures against Poland, Romania and Sweden as he focuses on recovering from the hamstring issue.
Newcastle handed right-back boost
The update will come as a relief to Newcastle, particularly with Tino Livramento also facing a spell out after missing Saturday’s 2-1 victory over Hull City.
Dedić has been managing the hamstring problem since Newcastle’s 1-0 win over Millwall, making his latest setback an unwanted development for both club and country.
However, the international break provides valuable time for the defender to recover without the pressure of immediate Premier League fixtures.
Newcastle will now hope Dedić can return to full training alongside some of the other players who missed the Hull victory, giving Matthias Jaissle a stronger squad when competitive action resumes.
