Omar Marmoush reveals Tottenham mood after another goalless draw
Omar Marmoush has opened up about the mood inside the Tottenham dressing room after the club were held to another 0-0 draw by Everton.
The summer arrival from Manchester City has now featured twice for Spurs since completing his move, with both appearances ending without a goal. Tottenham have struggled to create clear opportunities and supply their forwards, including Marmoush, in the early stages of the season.
Despite the frustrating start, however, the 27-year-old remains optimistic about what Tottenham can achieve and believes the players must avoid putting too much pressure on themselves in front of goal.
Following the Everton draw, Tottenham boss Roberto De Zerbi suggested that his team could be suffering from a mental block because of their failure to score in the league.
Marmoush, though, believes there have been encouraging signs in Tottenham’s performances and insists the players need to remain composed in the final third.
“If you look back at the last game, there were a lot of positive moments where we looked strong,” Marmoush said via the club’s official website. “Once everything starts clicking consistently, the wins will come step by step.
“Against Forest, I had a big opportunity that I should have scored, and there were also some situations where better decisions could have led to goals. But when it comes to scoring, you have to keep working and stick to the basics.
“You cannot become too frantic or put too much pressure on yourself to score because constantly thinking about it will not help. We all know we haven’t scored in the league yet, and that’s something we’re working hard to change.”
Marmoush confident Tottenham have the quality
Having previously played alongside elite talent at Manchester City, Marmoush is confident that Tottenham possess enough quality to turn their fortunes around.
The Egyptian forward praised the squad and highlighted the influence of De Zerbi, insisting that the team will need patience as they adapt to a new system and build understanding.
“I believe we have an amazing team with top-quality players,” he added. “I’m very happy to be starting and playing. I try to listen to what Roberto asks of me and what he demands from the whole team.
“He’s one of the best coaches in the world. The way he explains the tactics and the game opens your mind.
“The lads here are very nice people, and everyone at the club has welcomed me warmly, which made settling in much easier. Hopefully, there will be many more starts and, more importantly, more wins.
“We know we need time if we want to achieve big things. It’s a new phase, so everything cannot come together immediately.
“Everyone is working towards the same goal. We’re trying to improve every day and get better in every small detail of the game. The feeling within the group is very positive.”
