Neil Lennon has criticised Celtic’s performance against Rangers, claiming his former side were “outworked” and completely dominated by their rivals.
Celtic suffered a heavy defeat at Parkhead, with their display leaving supporters frustrated despite the match being played in front of a packed home crowd.
The hosts struggled to find any rhythm, with misplaced passes drawing groans from the stands. Their lack of intensity and determination was also evident as Rangers repeatedly imposed themselves on the game.
Speaking during Sky Sports commentary, Lennon agreed with the assessment that Rangers were comfortably the better team and admitted Celtic had been unable to match their opponents physically or technically.
“We can’t argue with anything here. Kris Boyd called it, and the commentary team called it too — Rangers were by far the superior side,” Lennon said.
“It wasn’t just about their physical attributes or the amount of running they did. They also played the better football.
“I thought Celtic improved after the break compared with the first half, but they still weren’t particularly impressive. The second half was completely disjointed. They were outplayed and outworked, and that is probably the worst criticism you can make of a team.
“There was no real quality and no clear thought in their play. It looked more like hope than expectation. They were absolutely battered today.”
The defeat will add further pressure on Celtic following another disappointing performance against their Glasgow rivals.
